Question: What is your IQ? Mine is 135 but I did that online on a free IQ test but I think it was pretty accurate. But I want to know what the best way to find your IQ is as well?

  1. I don’t know and I don’t care. “Intelligence” is a poorly defined concept and there are many arguments to say that measuring it via a test is of limited use. To me, intelligence is all about coming up with ideas that pull together disparate concepts and create a new way of looking at a problem, so that creative solutions can be found. The ability of people to do this varies, but I maintain that it is possible to get better at this over time with practice and by accumulating knowledge, but always by asking lots and lots of questions and never being satisfied by the answers. One of my colleagues says, “fortune favours the prepared mind.”

  2. I am the same as Steven on this question.

There was a good documentary about IQ tests out a while ago which suggested that they give a very biased view of people.

While IQ may measure certain things like vocabulary, math reasoning, or logic, they do not measure emotional intelligence, musical intelligence, and creativity.

I wouldn’t put much store in IQ tests.

  3. Hey pnemo. I wouldn’t take much notice of your online result. it really needs to be done by a professional who is actually interacting with you one on one. I don’t know mine either, and I’m not really fussed about knowing. Me and my brother had ours done when we were kids (relative was a psych) and our results were never revealed. Probably so it didn’t upset my older brother?!? 😉

  4. Hi pnemo,
I’m with the others – I don’t know what my IQ is and I’m not really interested in finding out. IQ is just one number/measure of a particular type of ‘intelligence’ and it doesn’t necessarily mean anything. How intelligent you actually are, taking into account the different types of ‘intelligences’ is not reflected in your IQ score. An average IQ score is about 100. Just because someone has a really high IQ score doesn’t mean that they are actually intelligent, in terms of being able to understand things and apply things in required situations (my definition of intelligence is similar to what Steven has said). Sometimes, people with supposedly extremely high IQs can lack any kind of common sense whatsoever – I wouldn’t call such a person intelligent! Sometimes people may be very intelligent but they might not be able to answer the questions on a test (for example, if they are not very literate or have never encountered that type of question before) and so would be given a low IQ according to the test – do you see what I’m saying about how IQ doesn’t necessarily reflect reality?

Pnemo, I’m not meaning to insult your intelligence (you ask some really great questions, so you are obviously actually intelligent!), but I wouldn’t put much stock in an IQ score from an online test (or even in general). If you are still really curious to know what your IQ is then I would suggest you get a proper test done with a psychologist. 🙂

  5. The first thing I would say is that IQ is not a very accurate measure of intelligence and is actually a better matter of critical thinking and problem solving skills. It doesn’t mean you are smarter than someone with an IQ of 120, just that you could solve those puzzles better.
Second, there was a psychology report that came out a little while ago that showed that a person will consistently score higher on internet and digital IQ tests compared to pen and paper ones. Nobody is sure why that is and it adds more evidence that they are not very useful.
I had mine tested when I was 12 and, from memory, it was between 120 and 130 but I would guess that if you would test me now it would be 100. 100 is the adjusted average of the whole population.
