Maybe. Where do you live? I grew up in Bendigo, on the Victorian goldfields. When I dug in my backyard I found old coins, bottles and all sorts of stuff. And in the creek down the street I could find gold.
Hi shadycactus6,
I agree with the others – it depends on where you live and also what you consider to be valuable.
If you are interested in this then studying archaeology, or even palaeontology (if you are interested in dinosaurs/prehistoric creatures) would be the way to go. 🙂

Hi Shady,
This all depends on where you backyard is, and what you define as valuable.
I saw a program a while back called time team or something, they go to sites in England and dig up areas and find where old buildings are.
If this is the sort of thing you are interested in, you will want to study archaeology.

I concur with what the others have said. Maybe check with your parents before you start digging holes in the backyard 🙂
