You can use any very fibrous plant. Reeds for example where used for a long time to make a type of paper in Egypt
Hi Shaunm,
There are a number of alternatives to wood based paper.
Firstly, recycled paper. It takes 60% less energy to make paper from recycled paper than from virgin materials.
Second, Agri-pulp, combines agricultural waste along with recycled paper to make paper.
Then of course other types of plant such as hemp, kenaf, bamboo, and cotton.
Lastly, with the digital world, there is less need now to use paper.
hey shaumn. The boys are correct. I was going off track and thinking that we could start using the skins of baby fur seals??!!?
Hi Shaunm, I’ll just add that paper can also be made out of the bark of banana plants. Nice answers, everyone. @Chris, that’s a bit disturbing, actually.
