Question: how far above the surface of earth is the ozone layer

    Its funny you ask this question as this was in the Geography 1A tests i was marking the other week.

    The ozone comes in two places, good and bad ozone. When it is in the stratosphere, which is from about 15km to 50km above the earth, it is good. It protects us from solar radiation.

    However, it can also be bad. When ozone builds up in the troposphere, this is from ground level up to 15km it can greatly affect our health.

    The Sydney basin is a great example of these problems. Pollution from cars and industry cause a build up of ozone in the troposphere in the basin, which is pushed around due to the climate and topography of the land. People with asthma suffer more and it can cause lung problems among other physical issues.

    So ozone as a substance occurs in a couple of layers of the atmosphere.
