I guess dogs are just the animals that we associate with rabies the most, even though several animals can be affected by it.
That’s an interesting way of thinking about it. What about, why does rabies pick dogs? The virus behind rabies is unusually broad in terms of a target animal to infect which is weird because most viruses can only infect one animal and that’s it.
