Question: how does chlorine make our water pure.

Keywords: ,

  1. Hi Horselover,

It is one form of decontamination, and is very popular. Essentially chlorine is a toxic substance and it kills micro-oraganisms in the water.

But in order to purify the water, you also have to use other methods which remove solid particles often done through filtering.

  2. Well answered Dustin. Some systems also use the chlorine to bleach things it cannot kill to make sure your pool stays crystal clear 🙂

  3. See a couple of other posts on chlorine. It is basically extremely reactive due to its chemical properties and is a member of a family of elements with very similar reactive properties in their pure forms. It can grab electrons from other atoms very easily and is therefore highly toxic to life. It is therefore a good substance for killing bacteria and sterilising water.
